How to Apply to the Online Master of Soil Science
Step 1: Apply to the Online Master’s Degree Program
The Graduate School oversees the application process for each program. The Graduate School has its own criteria for admission, but the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences Graduate Program has specific admissions requirements as well.
Applications for all graduate degree programs are submitted online through the NC State Graduate School Application (opens in new tab). The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is required for all U.S. citizens. Although there is no minimum score requirement, it is one of several metrics used by the Soil Science Department Graduate Committee to assess applicant qualifications. For master’s degree programs, an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or greater is preferred with evidence of training in biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, and soil science. For applicants whose native language is not English, minimum TOEFL score requirements on the internet-based test are a total score of at least 80 with minimum test scores of 18 each for listening, reading, writing and speaking.
Log in to the Graduate School Application (opens in new tab) to submit or check the status of your online master’s application.
Step 2: Register for Classes
Once admitted to the program, you will be provided with an NC State student ID, password, and username, which you can use to register for courses.
- Visit the Soil Sciences course listings page to peruse course descriptions. Should you have any questions, contact our online program coordinator.
- Go to MyPack Portal to register for classes. MyPack Portal is also a self-service system for students to update personal or academic information as well as a way to review semester schedules.
- Verify your schedule.
Step 3: Pay Your Tuition
You may visit Online and Distance Education Tuition and Fees to complete the tuition payment process. All inquiries regarding payments and cost of tuition should be directed to the cashier’s office. Your tuition bill must be paid by its due date in order to hold your seat in your classes.
Step 4: Start Your Class
As the semester or summer session nears, the lead instructor for your course will be in contact with information about accessing the course. Most distance education courses at NC State are accessible through Wolfware. You will use your Unity ID and password to log in.
