Careers

Do you enjoy working with children or teenagers? Do you have the temperament to work with parents, faculty and staff? Are you a compassionate problem-solver? Make a difference with a rewarding career as a K-12 school counselor.

As a school counselor, you will work with parents, students and teachers to ensure support related to academic and behavioral issues. You may provide crisis intervention to students when difficult situations occur in and out of the classroom, and you may be called upon to identify symptoms of abuse or neglect and find resources for affected students. The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Counselor Education (with a concentration in School Counseling) opens the door to a wide range of administrative, interactive and advisory roles in K-12 schools, all of which entail engaging with students, faculty and staff in a variety of ways.

If you love working with children in a K-12 school setting, a career in school counseling may be the right fit for you. Additional Information about the profession can be found through the American School Counselor Association.
